Rodrigo Hernandez Rodri success by winning this year’s Ballon d’Or is a source of pride for Spanish football according to Daniel Olmo.
Daniel Olmo, the 26-year-old midfielder, has admitted that he is as surprised by the reaction from the Spanish media as Rodrigo Hernandez Rodri, and believes that Spanish football should be happy for Rodri, who is the first Spanish player to win the Ballon d’Or award since legendary striker Luis Suarez won the award in 1960, Mundo Deportivo reported on Friday.
Rodri won this year’s Ballon d’Or, beating Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior by 41 votes, but there were arguments that the Los Blancos’ Brazilian forward was more deserving of the prize, while major Spanish publications Marca and Diario AS react strangely by not celebrating the 28-year-old midfielder’s achievement as they should have, which both Rodri and fellow player Olmo were quite surprise.
‘In the year he had, or the years he had before, with the icing on the cake of winning the European Championship, where he was name player of the tournament, he deserve it.’
‘To see Rodri celebrating that moment UFABET with his family was very touching. What he said spoke to what many people felt. It is the Ballon d’Or for Spanish football. Before, there were two beasts in world football who swept the award and it was Spanish football that won it,’ Olmo said.
There is no doubt that Rodri was a deserve winner of the Ballon d’Or, and the same would have been said of Vinicius if he was successful. It is also true that Spanish football should be delight by this achievement.
